Erg Lihoudi is a small erg an hour beyond M'Hamid, and the families who graze between it and the Algerian border still move with the season. This trip is built around meeting them — tea, bread baked in sand, and two nights in camp rather than one.

Down the Draa through Agdz, the Tizi n'Tinififft pass and the palm grove to Zagora. Afternoon at Tamegroute — the library and the green kilns. Night in a kasbah.

Zagora · M'Hamid · Erg Lihoudi
The last village, then the piste to Erg Lihoudi. Afternoon with a nomad family, camel ride at sunset, dinner and a night in the camp.

Erg Lihoudi · the erg and the hamada
A full day in the desert — walking the dunes at first light, a long lunch in the shade, the flat stone hamada in the afternoon. Second night in the camp.

Breakfast in the sand, then back up the Draa with time for the kasbahs and the Fint oasis before Ouarzazate.
