This is our most demanding southern route and the one we most enjoy driving. Volcanic plateau, palm valleys, two ergs, the Jebel Saghro crossing and the Anti-Atlas — most of it on unpaved surfaces, all of it in a Land Cruiser.

Day 01
Ouarzazate · Fint Oasis · Agdz
The piste down into the Fint oasis, then over the Tizi n'Tinififft to Agdz and the head of the Draa. Night in a kasbah.

Day 02
Agdz · Tamegroute · Zagora dunes
The full palm valley, the Koranic library and green kilns at Tamegroute, then the dunes at Tinfou. Night in a camp.

Day 03
Zagora · M'Hamid · Erg Chegaga
The last village, then the long piste across the hamada to the great erg. Camel ride, dinner, night in camp.

Erg Chegaga · Lake Iriqui · Foum Zguid
The dry lake bed, the fossil fields and the acacia plain. Night in Foum Zguid at the edge of the Anti-Atlas.

Day 05
Foum Zguid · Taznakht · Nekob
North to the weaving town of Taznakht, then east under Jebel Saghro to the kasbah village of Nekob. Night in a kasbah.

Day 06
Nekob · Jebel Saghro · Ouarzazate
The Tizi n'Tazazert crossing over Jebel Saghro if conditions allow, then down through Boumalne and Skoura to Ouarzazate.
